“We The Function”

“We The Function” represents the essence, the power of being Black, of being a POC.
We are here to take up space, we are here to celebrate ourselves and our ancestors by simply BEING the function.

Black culture is in everything you see, hear and or feel. Being black isnt just about skin color, hair texture or what our ancestors have gone through even to this day. Being Black is about embodying your Divine spirit, embracing all aspects of being a POC.
Our hair, our skin, our style, our jewelry, the way we speak, the songs we write and sing, the music we create, the dances we inspire, the entertainment that we create as a whole. You see heavy aspects of black culture in all of those forms. 

Jazz- a genre of music as rich as time, a perfect example of how rich we shall always remain! With the wild spirit of Jazz, comes the wild spirit of being Black. We are not here to apologize, we are not here to dim our light or to be more palatable to others. We are here to exist in our bodies and to pass on our knowledge and talents from our ancestors, those who didn’t have the chance to liberate themselves or to choose the freedom we deserve. 

Here and now WE get to be the change WE want to see, by showing up and supporting our own community. By showing up for ourselves more than anyone else has ever dared to show.

Black on Black crimes are worse than Black on Black lies…to show up is to show out, and what better way to show out for our injustices by BEING THE FUNCTION. By continuing to create, by continuing to exist, and thrive, we break down barriers one by one. The stigma, the stereotypes, the lack mindsets, all of that begins to deteriorate the more we create and show up for ourselves unapologetically!!!
